VirtIO Multi-Queue Networking Now Live on Performance and Premium VDS
Starting today, Performance VDS and Premium VDS servers support VirtIO Multi-Queue networking, giving these plans a more efficient way to handle network traffic.
#What's Changing
Previously, all network traffic on a VDS server was processed through a single RX/TX queue, meaning one CPU core handled all incoming and outgoing packets regardless of how many cores the server had. With Multi-Queue support enabled, network load can now be distributed across multiple queues, spreading the work across several CPU cores instead of bottlenecking on one.
The result: more efficient packet processing, better use of your server's dedicated CPU resources, and in some cases, lower network latency.
#Who Benefits Most
This update makes the biggest difference for network-intensive workloads, including:
- VPN servers (WireGuard, OpenVPN, etc.)
- Firewalls and routers (pfSense, OPNsense, VyOS)
- Proxies and load balancers
- Kubernetes and other container networking setups
- Any application that depends on low latency and high packets-per-second (PPS) performance
If you're running a typical website, business application, or other low-traffic workload, you likely won't notice a difference; the benefit scales with how much network traffic your server handles.
#How Queue Count is Determined
The number of network queues is assigned automatically based on the number of physical CPU cores allocated to your VM, ensuring an optimal balance between performance and system load.
No action is needed on your end. This change doesn't affect your maximum network bandwidth or PPS limits; it simply distributes the existing load more efficiently across your available CPU cores.

VirtIO Multi-Queue is live now on Performance and Premium VDS servers. We're keeping an eye on how it performs across our infrastructure, with plans to extend support to Cloud VDS servers as well.
