Improved SSH Security for Bare Metal #

We’ve introduced a small but important security improvement to how SSH access is configured when deploying or rebuilding dedicated bare metal servers.

Starting today, if you choose SSH key authentication during server installation, a root password will no longer be created or displayed in the client portal. In this case, access to the server will be possible only through the selected SSH key.

This change helps reduce the risk of brute-force attacks targeting the root user and aligns with common security practices used by many modern Linux distributions.

Cherry Servers Launches Local Ubuntu and Debian Mirrors #

As of today, Cherry Servers has rolled out a dedicated local Ubuntu and Debian mirror servers across all our locations for Ubuntu 24, Ubuntu 22, Debian 13, followed by Debian 12. This upgrade is designed to deliver faster, more stable package updates and security patches for all dedicated server users.

Until now, dedicated servers relied on standard public mirrors. While functional, those mirrors were not always geographically close to the servers themselves, which could impact update speed and consistency.

With the new setup, each Cherry Servers location now has its own local mirror. This means your Ubuntu and Debian servers will retrieve packages directly from the same location where they are hosted, reducing latency and improving reliability.

Supporting NEAR Validators With Meta Pool #

We’re working together with Meta Pool to support the next Node Studio validator cohort on NEAR, making it easier for new validators to get started with reliable infrastructure and predictable costs.

Validators accepted into the Node Studio program can run their NEAR nodes on Cherry Server's bare metal infrastructure, deployed and managed through the Node Studio MetaPool platform.

Instead of handling infrastructure setup on their own, validators get a ready-to-use environment that is close to NEAR network nodes and optimized for validator workloads.

Allnodes Private Network Interconnection (PNI) Live in Frankfurt #

Cherry Servers has established a Private Network Interconnect (PNI) with Allnodes in Frankfurt, delivering ultra-low latency connectivity for customers running blockchain infrastructure across both platforms.

Allnodes is a well-known blockchain infrastructure provider offering managed node hosting and validator services across multiple ecosystems. This interconnect was implemented in direct response to customer requests, reinforcing our commitment to building infrastructure based on real-world use cases and community feedback.

By peering directly with Allnodes, we enable traffic exchange without intermediaries, resulting in faster and more predictable network performance for latency-sensitive blockchain workloads.

With the new direct PNI in Frankfurt, traffic between Cherry Servers and Allnodes now flows over a private, dedicated interconnection rather than traversing public internet routes. This eliminates unnecessary hops, reduces jitter, and improves overall network stability.

Higher Disk IOPS and Network Speed for VPS and VDS #

We’ve rolled out a performance update that increases both disk and network limits for several server types. These changes are effective as of January 21, 2026, and apply to new server orders or after a server reinstallation. The disk subsystem limits have been raised for both VPS and VDS servers:

  • VPS servers: from 6,000 to 10,000 IOPS
  • VDS servers: from 60,000 to 100,000 IOPS

This update improves disk performance for workloads that rely on frequent read and write operations, especially when working with smaller files or data blocks.

Improved DNS Resolution For Dedicated Servers #

We’ve started rolling out an update to how DNS resolution works for dedicated servers across all Cherry Servers locations. As of today, we are introducing our own internal recursive DNS resolvers.

Until now, some servers were using public DNS resolvers or location-specific ones. In certain regions, this meant relying on external services such as 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1. Going forward, dedicated servers will use the same internal DNS resolvers in every location:

  • 10.100.0.53

  • 10.100.0.54

These are internal IP addresses, available only within Cherry Servers’ private network. They are not reachable from the public internet.
