New Automatic Backup Service for Virtual Servers

New Automatic Backup Service for Virtual Servers
Published on Oct 29, 2025 Updated on Oct 31, 2025

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new automatic backup service for Cherry Servers’ Virtual Servers (VPS and VDS), now available in the Lithuania region, with more locations to follow soon.

This new feature gives you full control over your backup schedule and makes it easier than ever to protect your data and recover quickly when needed.

#How It Works

  • Automatic backups every day: Backups are created automatically once per day and stored for 7 days, keeping the most recent copies available for recovery.

  • Custom backup window: You can choose a two-hour time window when backups are made — ideal for scheduling during low-traffic hours to ensure a more consistent backup during low-traffic hours.

  • Manual backups on demand: You can create manual backups at any time, even when the server is powered off. Up to three manual backups can be stored indefinitely.

  • Flexible restore options: Backups can be restored directly from the control panel. If a restore fails for any reason, our support team can assist immediately.

You can enable the VM backup service when ordering a new virtual server or activating it later for existing servers from your Cherry Servers account dashboard.

#Data Safety

All backup copies are stored on separate nodes within the same region to ensure data resilience. If a compute node experiences an issue, your backups remain safe and unaffected.

In future updates, there will be an option to choose where the backups are stored for even greater redundancy.

#Benefits of VM Backups

1. Hands-Off Backup Operations

Daily backups run without requiring your action. The system handles backup copy creation at your specified time and automatically manages the seven-day rotation. You never need to remember backup tasks or manually clean up old backups.

2. Protected Against Primary Infrastructure Issues

Backups reside on a separate physical infrastructure from your active server. Complete failures of your primary server hardware, storage arrays, or network connections don't affect backup availability. You can restore from a backup copy even when primary systems are offline.

3. Multiple Recovery Time Options

The combination of daily scheduled backups and manual on-demand backups gives you recovery flexibility. Scheduled backups provide regular recovery points. Manual backups add critical points around important events or changes.

4. Optimized Backup Scheduling

You control when daily backups occur. Servers with overnight low-traffic periods can schedule backups then. Servers with different usage patterns can choose alternative times. Proper scheduling minimizes performance impact during backup operations.

5. User-Controlled Additional Backups

Manual backups give you backup control beyond the daily schedule. Generate backups before risky operations, after completing major work, or whenever you want an extra recovery point. The hourly limit prevents excessive backup copy creation while providing flexibility.

6. Restoration Activity Tracking

The management interface displays your restoration history. View which backups were used for restores and whether restoration operations completed successfully. Historical data helps troubleshoot failed restores or verify successful recovery operations.
