Cherry Servers

#What Is Directly Attached Storage?

Every Cherry Servers deployment comes with pre-installed storage allocations that differ depending on the selected server type and build. Server workloads have a variety of needs related to storage drives, whether it’s speed, read volume, or simply capacity. We offer a range of directly attached storage for every use case, with options for HDDs and SSDs connected by both SATA and PCIe, providing low latency, efficient data transfer speed and access.

Additional storage drives can be added to any Cherry Servers dedicated bare metal server for an additional fee, although drive types and volume may be limited depending on the chosen server.

#Storage Drive Types

Each server type is configured with different types of storage drives depending on their performance and capacity needs. Cherry Servers deployments broadly use NVMe SSDs, while SATA SSD and HHDs can be installed on request, with limitations depending on the server type.

#SSD

Solid state drives use flash memory to store data, enabling high read and write speeds and low latency to provide fast access to small, frequent data requests. SSDs are well suited to workloads that require consistent throughput and responsiveness over raw capacity.

#SATA

SATA SSDs connect through the SATA interface to deliver reliable throughput with stable read and write speeds. They have moderate I/O operations per second, up to 500/600 IOps, making them suitable for steady workloads, functioning as a great general purpose storage option.

Individual volumes range from 250GB - 2TB.

#NVMe

Non-volatile memory express (NVMe) SSDs represent the industry standard in high efficiency storage. These drives connect directly through the PCIe interface, providing high throughput and low latency, making read operations extremely quick and responsive compared to competing solutions. They support a high volume of I/O per second up to thousands of times more than their SATA counterparts, which allows processing of thousands of parallel workloads with high speed polling, ideally suited for enterprise workloads needing swift data access and sustained performance.

Individual volumes range from 500GB - 16TB.

#HDD

Hard disk drives use spinning physical disks to store and process data and are designed for high capacity storage. They provide sequential read and write throughput that supports large file operations, prioritizing large storage volumes over read speed. While HDDs have much slower I/O capabilities than SSD, they represent great cost efficiency for storing large volumes of data and data availability, making them perfect for database and archival workloads.

Cherry Storage VPS servers with HDDs are equipped with an additional SSD caching layer to enhance read speeds, thereby improving overall efficiency and reducing operational latency.

Individual volumes range from 700GB - 16TB.

#Dedicated Servers

Our core offering pre-built dedicated bare metal servers across all core capacities are installed with two NVMe SSDs with volumes between 250GB & 4TB. These two drives provide high speed, low latency responsiveness, and capacity for running thousands of parallel queues simultaneously. All directly attached storage drives are customizable and can be set up in any way for your data security needs.

Additional storage drives can be attached for an extra fee per drive, up to as many as 10 disks, depending on the server type. Certain servers further allow the installation of HDD and SATA SSD drives to suit your storage needs either during installation, or as your workload evolves.

#Virtual Servers

Each Cherry Servers virtual server is equipped with different storage devices to best match their individual use cases. Virtual server instances use shared storage hardware with a network of other servers to provide storage allocations for each user, providing a more cost efficient option.

To prevent any throttling or bottlenecks, virtual servers have an IOPS cap to disallow any single user from hogging processing resources, and ensuring smooth operation for your server instance.

Please note that virtual server storage volumes cannot be customized at a later date, however, Cloud VPS servers can be upgraded to a higher tier, which would increase its storage volume.

#VDS

All virtual dedicated server instances are equipped with up to two NVMe SSDs, providing them with high quality data processing and efficient storage. Cloud VDS and Premium VDS volumes ranging from 100GB - 400GB. Cloud ARM VDS servers are equipped with disks with volumes between 25GB - 400GB.

Performance VDS are tailored to high intensity workloads and offer more robust volumes from 200GB - 800GB.

Please note that VDS server I/O operations are limited to 100,000 IOPS.

#VPS

Cherry Servers virtual services are designed with flexible, lightweight infrastructure needs in mind, and prioritise scalability. Reflecting this, Cloud VPS servers offer SATA SSD storage allocations between 20GB - 100GB.

Storage VPS instances are further optimized for storage heavy tasks and come equipped with HHDs with an additional caching layer for enhanced operation processing. These volumes range from 700GB - 3TB.

Due to the shared nature of the underlying hardware, I/O operations are capped at 10,000 IOps for these servers.

#How to Order Directly Attached Storage

All Cherry Servers deployments come pre-installed with directly attached storage. The volumes equipped vary depending on server type, and can be seen in the information box when selecting your server, as shown below.

Directly attached storage in dedicated bare metal servers can be customized during the ordering phase. The instructions are as follows:

  1. Select the processor and the region that you would like to deploy it in. Once you have been redirected, select the “customize hardware configuration” button.

  1. Hidden options will be made available. Navigate to “Disks”. You may adjust the current storage drive choices, or add additional disks.

  1. Activate the dropdown menu(s) and select the desired storage drive.

  1. Click “Pay and Deploy” to launch your custom server.
