#What Is a Cloud VPS Server?

Cherry Servers Cloud Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are ideal for clients looking for flexible lightweight infrastructure solutions with low performance and storage requirements. We offer two models of Cloud VPS, our standard line, offering baseline compute, and our Gen 2 servers, which use more modern virtualized CPU hardware to provide a smoother experience.

These instances are virtual environments that share hardware and network resources from a network of physical servers with other Cloud VPS servers. The servers utilize hardware-level virtualization through kernel-based virtual machine (KVM) hypervisors to provide full isolation and flexibility.

Our Cloud VPS is built with flexibility and accessibility in mind, and can be used for a variety of light workloads such as:

  • Staging environments perfect for testing and developing applications and features with low compute needs;
  • Small, static websites with low traffic needs;
  • Lightweight applications with minimal resource requirements, such as bots, simple APIs, and microservices.

Below you can find information about the hardware that backs our Cloud VPS instances, available plans, and our suite of features.

#What Are the Technical Specifications?

Our Cloud VPS virtualizes cores, memory, and storage from a pool of CPU processors, RAM and disks.

Each tier of server plan employs higher compute and processing power in sequential order, with each tier tuned for greater accessibility and response times. The hardware employed for Cloud VPS is detailed below.

#CPU

Cloud VPS servers are allocated compute power from a pool of virtualized CPU hardware. To indicate the efficiency of the allocations, we use industry standard Geekbench benchmarks.

Server tiers start at 1 virtualized core (vCore), benchmark 530, up to a maximum of 6, benchmark 2500, depending on the chosen tier.

Our Gen 2 servers start at 1 vCore, benchmark 730, up to a maximum of 6, benchmark 3600, depending on the chosen tier.

#Memory

Volumes range from 1GB - 6GB, depending on tier, while each tier can be upgraded to a maximum of 6GB on order.

#Storage

Each of our Cloud VPS configurations is equipped with SATA interface solid state drive (SSD) storage disks by default, with sizes ranging from 20GB, to 100GB, depending on the tier.

Due to the fact that Cloud VPS’ share a pool of SSDs, input/ output operations (IOPS) are capped at 10,000 operations.

#Bandwidth

Cherry Servers includes bandwidth packages with all Cloud VPS, and only takes data egress into account when calculating usage. By default, all servers have speeds of 1GPs, and a monthly traffic limit of 1TB, while higher tiers may opt for higher traffic limits, up to 5GB.

Additional bandwidth can be requested for an additional fee.

For more information, please visit our Bandwidth Plans page.

#Cloud VPS Plans

#Scaling Your Plan

Cloud VPS servers can be scaled to a higher tier plan without the loss of any data. If your workload exceeds your current plan, you may opt to upgrade your server, select the tier you would like to scale into, and your data will be transferred to the new server automatically. To begin the process, simply choose the “Upgrade Plan” from the “Server Actions” button in the top right corner above your active server overview. An example of this is shown below.

Your server will enter a short period of downtime relative to the amount of data being transferred at an average rate of one minute per gigabyte.

Please note that server plans cannot be downsized. We apologize for the inconvenience.

#IP Addressing

By default, all VPS instances are deployed with an IPv4 Floating IP address as the primary public IP address. This means the server does not assign a gateway IP address, nor a netmask configuration.

To supplement this, clients can opt to add additional IP addresses.

  • Floating IP - A public IPv4 address that can be instantly moved from one server to another within the same region.

Cherry Servers also invites you to take advantage of our suite of networking and management features to improve your server experience.

#Features

#Backup Storage

Backup Storage - We offer a dedicated network-attached file storage space with your server package. All virtual servers are eligible to activate 50GB of backup storage space free of charge, while additional backup storage can be requested for an extra fee, dependent on the volume.

#VM Backup Recovery

VM Backups - a managed backup service that creates point-in-time copies of your virtual server. These copies are created once per day and are stored on separate infrastructure nodes, ensuring redundancy and isolation from your primary server’s environment. Use VM Backups to recover your server to a prior state in case of data loss or corruption.

You may also customize your VM backup settings to increase the number and frequency of backup copies. Each copy is held for 7 days, and then released to make room for newer versions.

Find out more on our dedicated VM Backups page.

#Private VLAN Subnet

Private VLAN Subnet - Create a virtual local area network (VLAN) interface that groups servers within a project to enable private interactions, as if the servers were attached to the same wire.

#Server Tags

Server Tagging - Use server tagging to help organize, control, and monitor your cloud resources by marking them in an organizational pattern of your choice.

#Cloud-init Service

Cloud-init - A service that allows you fetch user data when provisioning new servers via API.

#How to Order

You can order any of our virtual servers through the client portal, or via automation with Cherry Servers API.

You can view our available Cloud VPS servers by clicking the “Shared Resources” tab under the “Virtual Servers” heading on the deployment page, as shown in the image below.

Cloud VPS servers come with pre-built resource capacity and are deployed by a fully automated provisioning system. Each deployment runs a multi-step server preparation process to ensure you always receive a safe, clean server on demand.

#Deployment Time

All virtual servers are deployed within 3-5 minutes, on average, across all available regions.

#Billing

Billing for your Cherry Servers virtual server can be arranged according to your needs. Payments can be set to either be carried out automatically, or manually, according to your preference. We offer the following fixed-term billing options:

  • Hourly,
  • Monthly,
  • Quarterly,
  • Semi-annually,
  • Annually.

Alternatively, you may opt to pay for your server on an hourly basis, in which case your solution will continue to run as long as you have enough credit in your Team balance.
